Man that thing rocks. I have fished it three times now and each time I use it I inflate (hate to use the word blow in here) the little beggar up just a little less. The smaller it is the better it casts and yesterday I caught in excess of 25 fish nymphing with a balloon-diactor. I inflated it to the size of giant gumball maybe even a little smaller.

It is so much more sensative. I can detect the smallest movement. Guess what eles. I can fish riffiles. I know everyone can/could but I never had success until I fished one using the balloon-dicator. It simply wont sink and in a riffle it will show you the take even before the fish notices. Well that might be an exageration. I hooked into two fish that broke me off. I have not been into fish that big in quite some time. I will not be skipping water like that ever again.

God Bless the inventor of The Balloon-diactor!

Is this a "Story" or a report?

Assuming it is a report: What is a ballon diacter? Water balloon indicator?

Thanks for assisting the naive.

what method do you use to attach it to your line?

I attach it via a loop formed with a small orthodontic rubber band...

Form a loop with your leader at about the heigth you want the balloondicator. Wrap it through the rubber band four times. Put the tag end of the balloon into and then tighten the loop. Kind of hard to describe without pictures but real easy to do.

I have fished it several times now and I love it. I have made my balloon quite small at times and it still floats really well.

Great just what we need .... balloons floating down the back eddies of the Lower! Hey we can have a carnival!

I tried this technique once and thought it was awful; simply awful. The thing was very difficult to cast, floated no better than a good yarn indicator, and it looked absolutely ridiculous. Just my two cents.

I'm putting the waders on now, it's starting to get deep.

Hard to cast? You must be doing something wrong. I love it and I have never let a balloon drift down stream.

I used this technique last week for the first time and laughed for the first ten minutes of fishing it. It did work very well. I'm going to try it out tomorrow while nymphing for steelhead, should work fine. It casts a heck of a lot better than yarn, and is much more sensitive. Just my .02 worth!

Yes, its effective, but not nearly so as a couple of electrodes and a fully charged battery.

What will they think of next...

Hey what about making a small plastic ball with a wire spring in it to attach the line. We could have one side be white and the other red. When it bobs up and down we will know we have a fish.... yea thats it lets call it a bobber!

Q: "Who invented the "Balloon-diactor?"

A: The same doctor who invented the catheter. He is retired now and living in Montana.

I was just one of the first guys to start using it on the Provo. I remember fishing with one and some guy looked at it and said "won't that scare the fish?" and so I replied "not any more than any other indicator"...... it was one of those "well duh" moments for him.

I know a couple of guides on the Green started using them a few years before I did.

I think I've seen some of these balloon-diactor's lying on the ground in the parking lot on the lower provo. But I would never think about blowing one up and putting it on my line.

So is there a link or web site that advertises these "balloon-diactor's" or can I just go to the pharmacy?.

If you go to the Green now 90% of the guides will be using this technique. Think about it, 20 boats lined up with balloons going down the river.
So the term Circus Fishing. As far as I know, the guides on the green started the new craze and some of them brought it to the Provo and surrounding areas.
The deal behind it is that it never sinks, people can see it and you can drift (in a boat) forever with out the indicater(old style) eventually getting waterloged and sinking.

The best thing about it is that when a fish actually takes it, the balloon rebounds and sets the hook for you! The balloon always wants to be floating.
A clove hitch is the best to attach it and for the same amount of money you would spend on 2 other style indicaters you can buy a lifetime supply.

Cheers.
