I posted this as a reply to the guy that had someone find his flyboxes but was in the report forum so all replies need to be reviewed. You might want to delete that one Mike.

That post got me thinking about labeling fly boxes with name/phone/address which I have done.

I'm also thinking about a way to tether fly boxes to my vest, incase of a fall or accidentally leaving a zippered pocket open. If any of you do this I would be interested to know what type of twine/string you use, and where you get it. It would have to be quite thin to thread it through the small hole on each fly box that I assume is just for this purpose. I was thinking that dacron backing material or even old fly line might work.

Fulano,

I used to do this. I used the little "zingers" you can buy at any fly shop. I used to look for boxes that had a place I could clip the end of the zinger to and pin the other inside the big pocket of my vest. I stopped doing it when I started carrying a fair number of boxes (4-6) (they would get tangled together), and I got the Orvis vest where the pockets snap shut.

I have all my boxes tied to my vest. Ever since I lost about 50 flies and box on the Blacksmith. I use a small rope and drill a hole in the plastic flybox, then just tie a knot at the end of the rope or put a swivel through the hole. I had some smaller 'line' but it tended to tangle. I would not suggest backing. The rope I use is probably a little bigger than 1/8". I have 9 boxes tied in like this. Each pocket on my vest only has 1 rope. 1 pocket has 3 boxes. There are swivels attached to 2 boxes from the rope on those. They can get tangled up a little when I get in a hurry. But for the most part they work great.

have holes predrilled to attach the box to a lanyard or 'leash' to decrease the likelihood of loss. They are great boxes, but like all good things, a little spendy.
