Dan Bailey catalogue. Looks like the Guide model from Montana Boat Builders. I think once I finish learning how to row, building that Guide model might be on the agenda. It would be hard not to cry cracking a Guide up against that stupid #@!** rock below bridge rapids.......

Maybe you need to go up, get out of the boat and make peace with that rock Jdub. You've got to get past it (or hit it what the hell!)

I've met several rocks personally on that river, but I am not acquainted with the rock just below bridge?

It is actually the rock "at" Bridge rapids as you go over the 3 foot drop directly river right. I've tapped it myself the first time through. Jdbya just feels a trip would not be complete unless he gives it a big old smack!

so how come i keep smacking it when i exit that lip to the left??? its gonna bug me all winter.
speaking of that, i've got some nice dings on the side i should tend to. do i just need to sand, varnish and epoxy, blending the dings and coats onto the boat, or do I need to do the whole side??

It wouldn't hurt to give the entire side or even exterior a coat or 2 of varnish. Especially if you have not done so since you purchased it. For the dings use an epoxy/wood flour mix. You can add a little stain to the wood flour to match the wood your patching. Just make sure it is dry prior mixing it withthe epoxy. I think you also had some exterior "checking" on the plywood. sand that down give it a coat or two of epoxy, then varnish. It will look brand spanking new once your done. If you need any help give me a call i'd be happy to come by.

PS as you enter bridge get into the middle of the tongue, keep back rowing until the last possible second, get the stern pointing slightly river left and release. The current goes right to left, which kicks the stern out to the right where the rock is.

Why can't I figure out what rock you are talking about. The only screw up I've made in bridge was to keep back rowing too long. (trying to keep my speed down) I got my left oar stuck behind a rock half way down the drop. As the boat continued to move down river, the oar remained stuck. This in turn threw the handle of the oar forward. I was holding onto the oar as tight as I could. This, then threw me out of the rowers seat up to the front of the boat. I got a really funny look from my Dad who was fishing out of the front of the boat (wondering why I had joined him in the front of the boat and why I had left my post at the rowers seat) But even on that occasion, the boat didn't hit a rock?

A little knick, a little scratch, I think Chevy drivers call this character.
Lil' stroke right oar lil' stroke left oar then just have the front guy push off with the extra oar...;-) Just don't hit it hard enough to spill everyone's beer & you'll be tight & alright.
pee's
Man you guys are trying too hard in the bridge. The last orr stroke I take is just as I drop into the chute. I lightly drag the orrs just enough to keep my boat parallel to the shore and the cushion off the tiny point where the rock is will shoot your bow to the left and your boat will follow.
It takes some blind faith, but it works.
