As far as fly-fishing for trout is concerned, a year and a half in Southern Nevada is essentially a slow and painful death. I might as well live on the moon.
But the other day I found a small state park that stocks several thousand rainbows in a moderate size "pond" during the winter months. It certainly wasn't the Provo river, and honestly, it was more like Utah Lake, but for three hours I gained some relief from the pain.

I was on the recieving end of several inquiring looks as I strung up the fly-rod amid several groups of bait throwers. The curiosity (however intended) gave way to astonishment as I brought three 12" rainbow trout to hand in 5 casts. I answered a number of questions after that. All nice people and curious about what I was "using." (Beadhead Seal Bugger) I caught a lot of fish, and thoroughly enjoyed talking with the people I met.

I returned home feeling like I was 8 years old on Christmas morning.

The point here? I must be trout starved if I had that much fun after paying a six dollar fee to fish for newly stocked rainbow trout in a state park.

I really need to plan a trip to Utah....
