View Full Version : Sark, the reason why....

In December the "controversy" of reporting and hotspotting re-surfaced and it wasn't until I just saw his grin'n mug that I placed the name of who was the catalist to banning hot spotting. For those of you who are new and still don't understand why Mike put a stop to it, go to the photo section. Sark couldn't just post a photo of a nice fish. He had to give you the blow by blow discription of how he landed that monster, including tippit size, angle of degrees the rod was bent, hook size, actual time it took to land him, exact spot, time of day, weather conditions, light angle etc... In addition there was not a Monday morning that went by that we wouldn't be subjected to his fish stories of how many, how big, blah, blah, blah...Plus I don't think he any idea what he was doing Since he no longer lives here or has posted in over a year+ I think I'm safe. I believe he is now a copy writer for the Bass Pro Tour with ambitions to become the MC. But if your still searching for a reason check out his photo and novel of how he landed it.

Thanks for the laugh. What a nerd. He seems like the type that yells everytime he hooks a fish no matter the size. I've fished with a few of those. I had one guy who brought a fish about that size 1/4 mile up stream in his net just to show me. He said, he kept putting it back in the water to revive it. Poor fish. We still laugh at that.

You guys are very mean! I love that picture, isn't that why we fish? To smile like that with utter-spaztic-excitement??? Sark seems ok, just a little excited, obviously he's never came close to hooking the monsters that you guys do............but, with alot of practice, someday he will reach the skill level equal to so many of the fishing guru's who swim these www waters....what I really want to know is this; Where do I get me one of those hats???

As they say a picture is worth a thousand words. We could go into why he is on his knees, the slight bend in his back, the surprised. excited "O" expression on his face. I bet he he has the complete Andy Kim "How to be like me" DVD set at home. I also believe you'll be able to get that hat from Jason soon. Those are supposed to be the new Utrah on the Fly hats.

Since when is it not okay to get excited about catching a fish? I understand the issue about not posting specific locations, but give the guy a break. He was just sharing his excitement. I actually ran into this guy on the middle one time during a caddis hatch and we fished side by side for awhile. It was pretty crowded that evening. Yeah, he got excited when he hooked one, but hey, it's supposed to be FUN, right????

What happen to un-medicated Fred from last week?
Besides Fred, the original point was he was one of the reasons for the report ban.

Are you sure about that? I don't think he had anything to do with it. If I'm not mistaken, that fish is from the Middle Provo. A few more posts like that one and we wouldn't even have a stunted fish problem.

Hey, I've caught that fish a bunch of times. In fact, I caught him once before Larc ever posted his picture, and several times since. He was just as fun to catch after Larc's post as he was before. In dozens of trips to that section of river, I've rarely seen other people casting up under the bank to where the now famous fish hangs out, and it's obvious that the other's who have been lucky enough to hook into him where as careful to return him as Larc. So, my question to all of you who are so willing to disparage Larc for his exuberance - what did it hurt? Most of the decent fish in the Provo are no strangers to landing nets, and I still love to catch them. Nobody likes to fish in a crowd, but it's not like the middle Provo is a "secret" hot spot. That 'bow isn't the brightest or most selective fish in the river - so I'm sure he's been caught many times, and as long as people are careful with him and put him back, who cares if other fly fishers have a chance to enjoy him.
I've been "lurking" on this site for a couple years now under a different log in name. I've never posted, because I never completed my original registration on account of my company's spam filter apparently trashing the "registration completion" email that gets sent out as part of the sign up process. But apparently I've fished with some of you... and I've enjoyed lurking. Makes time spent in the office go by so much faster than working. Thanks for the entertainment and occasional enlightenment.

Grizz,
Mike and jason have set up a person's profile to default to "glo-bug" when they sign up. Kind-of a mean trick if you ask me...

Sarc was a good guy. We had some good times...his kung fu and all. Yes, he liked to post reports but I think we all did back in the beginning. We had to bump up the numbers to attract members. I guess it worked. :-)
Glo Bugs rule! I think it's Mike's favorite pattern.

Sark was a good guy and one of the original handful of good people that hung out on this site. I think Sarkis relocated to Washington State due to his job.
There's probably about 1995 members on this site that never knew him, and a few of those people have just power slammed him to the ground for a picture and a few words!! More is not always better!
I also agree that glo-bugs RULE!

Never met him, probably never will - but from reading his old posts it looks like he's a friend of the fish, and hence a friend of mine. That said, if that fish he's holdin' is 19 inches, I'll eat his gansta hat.
Hey Griz - got that profile o' mine updated; just fer you...

You da man Grizz. Your sarcasm is one of the main reasons I migrated from lurker to poster. We'll have to swap dough bug recipes some time.
BTW - how would a guy do that cool quote thing if he were interest?

Neeto quote thingy? Lower right hand corner.
Funny thing is, I've never flyfished in my life, just started hangin' around here, picked up on the lingo/nomenclature & ran with it. Some of these people actualy think I dress up in funny clothes, sport a long rod & go slappin' water all over the west...............the horror ~ the horror

I think there was more to it than Sark, although I found him to be a J.A. I remember him reporting #'s caught with explicit detail's... Though, there were several more to fill his shoe's and I'm sure that the bonehead cycle will not be broken....

What is the purpose of this thread? Bash Sark who hasn't been around for several years?
Sark was a great guy and Jason is right. We all did the report thing back in the early days. Sark was a fun guy to fish with, knew his stuff, a better fisher than most, and was giddy as a little kid when it came to catching a trout. He loved the sport and was out on the river all the time.
Sark was an active participant on this board long before most of you were here. Give it a rest and just go fish.
