Pat's Blue Midge

Hook: Dry fly size 18-24.

Thread: Black 8/0.

>Comments: Midge Swap 2001. Use this midge in low light conditions in winter such as overcast days or in dark canyons. This can be a very effective fly during these times. However, I have had very little success during bright sunny days with this pattern. I fish this pattern deep along the bottom. (I have only fished this pattern in Colorado, but it should also work in other western states)

Body: 4-inch single strand of charcoal embroidery floss twisted in direction of the floss twist with a 4-inch length of blue flash until the combined strand starts to furl. Wrap around the hook shank counterclockwise forward and tie off with the thread at the thorax. Note: embroidery floss generally is six-strands; cut a 4-inch piece and separate the strands to make six flies.
