I came up with this pattern the winter of 2001-2002 and haven't had too many chances to fish it since then. Unfortunately, last year wasn't a great Green Drake year. Even though it's not a true tested pattern, I think it will still hunt. I submitted this pattern in the WR Fly Tying Contest last year and it took 3rd place in the dry fly category. There were obviously people that thought it was a good pattern. It's a fun fly to tie which incorporates a lot of different styles and techniques. This particular style pattern can also be tied in a larger size for Brown Drakes and even in smaller sizes for other mayfly species. Just use different colors to match the natural. Since I originally added the above comments, I have had some very good success with this pattern, particularly up on Slough Creek in Yellowstone during a Gray Drake hatch. The Yellowstone Cutts loved it. |
