Black Beadhead Zebra Midge
Recipe
Black Beadhead Zebra Midge

Hook: Standard nymph or scud hook, size 16-24.

Thread: Black 6/0 or 8/0.
Bead: Black or gun-metal X-SM.
Ribbing: Danville's silver fine wire.
Body: Black thread, tapered thicker towards the throat.
>Directions: Slide bead on the hook and attach hook in vice. Attach thread and secure the bead with many wraps of thread. Then wind your way down to the bend of the hook. Tie in a piece of wire and begin forming a body with your thread. You should form a tapered body with the butt of the body being slimmer. Once you form the shape of your body begin winding the wire in even wraps until you reach the bead. Tie off the wire and whip finish. Apply a small drop of head cement on the thicker part of the body. If you don't do this the thread tends to slide off and become unraveled, especially after you've caught a few trout.
>Comments: This is a great fly anytime of the year and it's simple to tie. I have caught my biggest fish with this pattern, including a 22 inch Brown and a 20 inch 5lb Rainbow. This is a great fly used as a dropper. During the winter months this is the go to pattern. This pattern can be tied in various colors using different colored threads and beads.
